Understanding Addiction’s Grip

Addiction often begins when people use substances to cope with inner struggles like a need for love, success, or belonging. Initially, drugs and alcohol may relieve emotional pain, but they can quickly become crutches, leading to dependency. Breaking free from addiction can be incredibly challenging, as it dominates thoughts and actions and can result in painful withdrawal symptoms.

Once addiction takes hold, it can lead to harmful behaviors like theft or selling drugs to support the habit, leading to legal problems. Over time, individuals may need more substance to achieve the same effect, increasing the risk of overdose or severe harm.

Without a new way of thinking and a change in what they focus on to fill the emptiness, people dealing with addiction might keep returning to their addiction, causing harm to their relationships, trust, jobs, money, and physical and mental health. Addiction can mess things up.

Transformation Through Faith:
Finding Strength in a Higher Power

Dealing with addiction can be tough, often leading to repeated setbacks and feelings of not being good enough. Many people struggling with addiction realize they can’t overcome it independently due to their past mistakes and guilt. Our program emphasizes the importance of turning to a “higher power” immediately. By building a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, those battling addiction find a powerful source of support. Instead of facing their struggles alone, they learn to ask for help from their Creator.

low cost online counselingThrough Christ and the Holy Spirit, people with addiction discover constant support that brings them peace, purpose, kindness, honesty, and the determination to beat their addiction. At first, they may feel burdened by their past and unworthy, but understanding that Jesus Christ accepts and forgives them opens up a new perspective. They start to regain a sense of self-worth and a desire to seek forgiveness from others while helping those in need.

With the strength of Christ, they gather the courage to seek forgiveness from those they’ve hurt. Surprisingly, many people see their positive changes and are willing to forgive them, allowing those with addiction to let go of guilt and move forward.

Restoring Truth in the Addict’s Journey

Addiction often leads people to become good at lying to themselves and those around them. They may frequently avoid taking responsibility for their actions by blaming others. When we introduce Christ into their lives, we bring back the importance of truth, something they may have lost. Many of our team members have personal experience with addiction and can relate to the struggles.

From this point forward, our focus is on honesty and openness. This might sometimes mean being firm, but it’s always done with compassion and understanding. Gradually, individuals understand that the path to a better life involves leaving behind falsehoods and embracing the truth, guided by the presence of Christ.

In a Teen Challenge Outcomes Study conducted by The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA):

"NO WARRANTY" LEGAL NOTICE: While independent outcomes studies have shown very high recovery rates for indiviuals in our programs, we cannot guarantee recovery for any particular individual. Recovery and future abstinence from addicting substances and the effects that such substances may have on the individual or their life, actions, or their future are entirely dependent on the individual and how well they apply the principles we have taught them. We are an educational institution, and how the individual in our program learns from what they are taught and modeled here, is totally up to them. Individuals who stay the full term (until graduation) have much better long-term recovery from addicitons than those who do not.
